Sitting just west of Port-au-Prince, Leogane boasts veins of soapstone that are ripe for carving. There are more than 200 stone workers from several dozen families in Leogane. While each stone worker embodies their own unique, creative designs, all use the same simple hand tools to carve, smooth and polish their pieces. This process of creativity supports its community and adds to the collective effort to rebuild Haiti.
